tour a trout farmin Zagatala
Located amid a fabulous forest in the village of Magov, Zagatala region, the Zagatala Trout Fish Farm rears high-quality rainbow trout and has been operating since 1979. The trout benefit from pure mountain water and a favourable environment and are fed naturally. The farm has a responsible approach to nature and uses some of the trout to restock local rivers.
Tourists are welcome to visit the farm, where the main visitor experience is an eco-tour and food tasting. This entails a behind-the-scenes tour of a working trout farm during which you’ll discover the ins and outs of trout breeding. Professional fish breeders will guide through the entire rearing process, from fry to adult, and allow you to participate in it. Afterwards, you’ll be invited to get a taste of the farm’s products at the onsite Zagatala Forel restaurant, which has indoor space for 20 people plus an outdoor terrace and serves a selection of fried and smoked trout.
Another unique experience the farm offers, upon request, is the opportunity to catch your own dinner – the trout you catch will be prepared for you by the farm’s chefs. Additionally, between May and September outdoor fish cooking and painting classes are available through advance booking.
